Information session for local beekeepers

THERE will be an information session for beekeepers hosted by the Department of Primary Industries at Casino next month.

The session will provide the latest information on American foulbrood and other pests and diseases of bees.

Clarence MP, Chris Gulaptis said all beekeepers, amateur and commercial across the Northern Rivers are encouraged to attend this important information session on pests and diseases and best management practices.

"The aim of this operation is to provide advisory material to beekeepers on registration requirements and disease notification and eradication," Mr Gulaptis said.

"After the formal session beekeepers are welcome to inspect some hives and observe best practice brood inspection for disease and how to sample hives for disease diagnosis.

"So bring your lunch, bring your gear and join in the conversation on keeping your bees happy and healthy."

The information session will be held at the Greenridge Hall on the Casino Coraki Rd, Casino on Tuesday October 13 starting at 9.30am.

Detailed information on pests and diseases of honey bees is available on the DPI web site
