Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has been coy on details, but told fans of the franchise to steer clear of the latest trailer if they want to "come in completely clean" when they see it at the cinema.
"I a legitimately torn. If you want to come in clean, absolutely avoid it," he tweeted a fan.
The latest trailer was released during halftime on ESPN's Monday Night Football in the US.
It is the first new footage from Episode VIII since the first trailer was released during Star Wars Celebrations in April.
For the first time we hear Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) speak with the ominous words: "I've seen this raw strength only once before. It didn't scare me enough then it does now."
It's unclear who he is referring to, but some are already suggesting it's Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), who has turned to the dark side.
He has finally met Rey (Daisy Ridley), who has returned his blue lightsaber to him.
In the closing scenes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, she travelled to the island of Ahnch-To to find Skywalker.
Her plan was to deliver him his original lightsaber and bring him back home.
In the new scenes from Episode VIII, she can be seen wielding her power with the famous Jedi weapon on a cliff as Skywalker watches on in the distance.
We also see the moment Rey hands Skywalker the lightsaber.
He reaches out for it with his robotic hand which he got after Darth Vader cut his hand off in their epic first duel in Episode V, The Empire Strikes Back.
Rey's Jedi powers have also strengthened since Episode VII, with a scene showing her able to lift rubble from the ground.
Another familiar face is Carrie Fisher, who returns as Princess Leia. While we don't hear her speak, we see a sequence between her and her son, Kylo Ren, who is now under the control of the Supreme Leader of the First Order, Snoke.
Fans can hear the words: "Kill it if you have to, that's the only way to become what you were meant to be," before he presses the button, while flying his own fighter in a war that appears to unfold between the First Order and his mother's Resistance ship.
The Millenium Falcon returns during one intergalactic battle, where Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) is also seen at the helm.
Another scene shows Rey saying to Kylo Ren: "I need someone to show me my place in all this". It's unclear what happens next.
Other characters including Chewbacca, BB-8, Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Finn (John Boyega) and more.
The new trailer comes after Australia's major cinemas had already activated their ticketing systems before it actually dropped.
