Aussies are in for kill ... whoever plays

Australian selectors were almost saved a difficult decision ahead of the Boxing Day Test when opener Joe Burns copped a painful blow on the arm during a net session at the MCG.

If Usman Khawaja returns to the line-up as expected after recovering from a hamstring injury, either Burns or Shaun Marsh will lose their spot.

Burns left the nets in distress with team doctor Peter Brukner, but after having his forearm iced he was back for some more batting practice (right).

Burns' partner at the top of the order so far this summer, David Warner, meanwhile, told reporters the Australian players would show no sympathy to the struggling West Indies.

If Australia wins the next two Tests against the Windies, and then the series against the Black Caps in New Zealand, and South Africa - presently the No.1 side in the world - loses to England in its series which also starts on Boxing Day, the Aussies can regain the top sot on the ICC rankings.

"We've got a big job at hand. Our goal is to be number one in all three formats," Warner said.

The dashing opener also said some more consistency, particularly in the batting, was the key.
