Hundreds sign up for charity walk
ORGANISERS of the first Ballina to Byron Charity Walk have been overwhelmed by support for the event, and have now closed registrations before the advertised closing date.
The 37km walk is a fundraiser for the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter and will be held on May 20.
The organisation said it was originally expecting about 200 people to participate.
But, almost 500 people have now signed up for the scenic walk, forcing the closure of nominations.
The helicopter's acting communications officer, Zeke Huish, said there had been an "overwhelming response".
