Have a group hug for peace at Byron Bay on Sunday
CAN hugging really bring about world peace?
That is the call to action a group that calls itself the Global Peace Hug Revolution is extending to anyone in Byron Bay this weekend.
The group has sent out an invitation for people to hug, or have a group hug at a One Minute for Peace action at Main Beach on Sunday, noon-3pm.
"This is a free event, if you are not able to join us on the day you are welcome to start your own action in your area as this is the Global Hug Revolution," the invitation said.
The Northern Star set out to see how many people would be interested in attending a hug fest in Byron Bay and immediately found travellers from Italy, England and Mauritius who were not only keen on the idea, but had already taken advantage of free hugs being offered on Byron Bay streets.
"I have seen free hugs offered at festivals and also there is a guy on the street in Byron Bay offering free hugs," Vincent Moreau of France said.
"I gave him a hug, yes. Hugging is a beautiful thing. It brings people together."
"It breaks down boundaries," agreed fellow traveller Gabriele Cavazza of Rome. "We will be at the hug event."
