Howzat, Dad?

CRICKET has a way of throwing up statistical oddities and there was another on Sat-urday in the Lismore winter competition.

Father and son Michael and Kody Mansfield, playing for Goonellabah Workers Sports, each took five wickets in their team's win over Southern Cross University at Sam Trimble Oval, Bexhill.

A pair of fives in an innings is rare enough but for a father and son to achieve the feat together may be unprecedented, especially on the Far North Coast.

The Goonellabah team, containing several fathers and sons, batted first and scored 80 runs from their allotted 30 overs.

It wasn't looking good until Michael Mansfield, 56, and Kody, 17, combined to dismiss the SCU boys for 51.

Each of them bowled their maximum five overs. Michael, the second bowler used, finished with 5-5, then Kody replaced him from the same end and claimed 5-16 to complete the Mansfield mayhem.
