Fire fighters battle blazes at homes at Casino, Tintenbar
FIRE fighters have been kept busy today, with a home at Casino and another at Tintenbar destroyed by fires.
Rural Fire Service Far North Coast operations controller Inspector Bob Wilcox said emergency services were called to Tintenbar Rd about 2pm after reports of a possible house fire.
Insp Wilcox said Rural Fire Service brigades from Alstonville, Newrybar and Lennox Head, two Fire and Rescue NSW pumpers from Ballina and police rushed to the scene.
"When fire fighters arrived they found the house fully involved in flames," he said.
"They said the fire had been going for a while and it appeared as though there was no one home."
Fortunately, no one was injured in the blaze.
Due to the intensity of the blaze, Insp Wilcox said it was too early to determine where in the house the fire started.
"They guys on scene said after they arrived the roof came down and collapsed on the block wall and iron roof home," he said.
"They said it was too far gone and the home also possibly had asbestos in it."
Insp Wilcox said the family that lived in the home had been out at the time and came home to find their house destroyed.
"They people came home and found out ... they were pretty distressed," he said.
A house in Coachwood Ave, Casino, was also damaged by a fire yesterday. NSW Fire and Rescue reported the single level home was "well alight" when fire fighters arrived at the scene, with flames in the roof and front room.
