House destroyed in blaze at Casino
A MAN has been arrested after a house at Casino was destroyed by fire overnight.
A Newcastle Fire Communications spokesman said brigades from Casino and Lismore were called to reports of a house alight on the corner of Oak Ave and Melaleuca Pl about 7.45pm.
"The blaze quickly took hold and the 10 metre by 8 metre brick and tile home was engulfed in flames when the Casino Brigade arrived," the spokesman said.
"Fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using two hoses from the pumper."
Police, Ambulance and an Essential Energy crew also attended the scene.
Sergeant Claude Toscan of the Richmond Local Area Command said police had been called to the house just hours before the fire to a domestic violence incident.
A 34-year-old man was arrested nearby and refused bail.
Sgt Toscan said police were investigating the cause of the fire today.
Social media was abuzz with chat about the fire within minutes, with suggestions someone was trapped inside the home and may have died.
However, the NSW Fire Communications spokesman said that was not correct.
"Fire fighters did primary and secondary searches of the house and discovered no one was at home at the time."
