Horschel secures victory, and $14m bonus

BILLY Horschel and wife Brittany will be able to celebrate the birth of their daughter in style after the American won the Tour Championship and the year-long FedEx Cup in Atlanta.

The couple is expecting its first child in a fortnight and will do so with a pay cheque for winning both trophies of $A14.58 million.

A final round two-under 68, his 12th consecutive round in the 60s, left the 27-year-old at 11-under par, three clear of Rory McIlroy and veteran Jim Furyk.

Horschel (pictured) was only 60th in the standings before the four playoff tournaments but finished runner-up in the second event, the Deutsche Bank Championship, before winning the next tournament, the BMW Championship at Denver.

Australian Jason Day finished in a tie for fourth at East Lake on seven-under with Adam Scott three shots back in a tie for ninth.

John Senden was 26th, while Geoff Ogilvy finished last in the 29-man field.

Day's place at November's Australian Open could be in jeopardy as he continues to battle thumb and back injuries.

The Queenslander has battled the thumb problem for most of the season and picked up the back complaint in the past couple of weeks.

Day has had a new trainer for the past six weeks, South African Cornel Driessen, who has pinpointed several issues with the 26-year-old's body that need attention.

It is expected the world No.8 will get scans and checks over the next week to fully ascertain if an extended break is warranted.
