Home renovations getting cheaper in Queensland

A new report reveals that the costs of renovating your home in Queensland has fallen 4.4% since this time last year.

ServiceSeeking.com.au's latest renovation figures show that the average tradesman is now charging $59.84, sitting 3.4% below the nation's average.

Costs of home renovations remained steady across Australia at a 0.3% increase year-on-year, amid a rare drop in national inflation rates.

Victoria remains the cheapest state to renovate at an average of $56.58, more than 5.7% cheaper than Queensland.

Western Australia and New South Wales are respectively 9% and 5% more expensive to hire a tradesman.

The Renovation Consumer Price Index (RCPI) is a Quarterly report released by ServiceSeeking.com.au analysing over 52,000 quotes submitted by tradesman on the website.

The latest RCPI compares the cost of renovating in Q3 FY16 versus the prior year. To support the release of the RCPI, ServiceSeeking.com.au has created an interactive map that plots price changes across 10 popular renovation services in Queensland year on year - www.serviceseeking.com.au/renovations/qld

"Our interactive map suggests that Queensland has bucked the national trend in renovation prices," says CEO Jeremy Levitt.

"The demand for home renovations is at all time lows, so tradesman are having to lower their prices to make their services more appealing" says Jeremy. "Now is a great time to renovate your home in Queensland".

The largest price drops were Flooring and Landscaping services, falling 18.9% and 10.6% respectively.

Carpenters and Concreters bucked the trend, increasing their prices respectively by 14.5% and 5.5% year-on-year.

With more than 2.2 million jobs listed on ServiceSeeking.com.au to date and over 7 million quotes compared, the company's latest findings provide a strong indication of renovation costs around Australia.
