Hogan announces grant for Bunjum Aboriginal Co-op

Nationals candidate for Page, Kevin Hogan, has promised that Bunjum Aboriginal Co-op in Ballina will receive a grant of $115,500 if his party is elected at the federal election.

Mr Hogan says the grant is to develop the training centre at the rear of the premises and improve facilities for the staff.

"I'm thrilled to announce this grant, as the money is going towards helping this organisation better serve the community and increase their capacity locally," Mr Hogan said.

"Bunjum Aboriginal Co-operation is in the process of setting up a Registered Training Organisation in conjunction with Jobs Australia. The aim is to assist Aboriginal clients to access appropriate education and training specifically geared to their culture."

"They are looking to offer courses in areas such as IT, Horticulture, Retail, Hospitality, and even Literacy and Numeracy."

"This is a fantastic development for Bunjum and I have no doubts that the wider community will benefit from this injection."

"Bunjum does excellent work in the community and it all goes towards closing the gap to improve the lives of Indigenous Australians, and provide a better future for Indigenous children."

Liberal Senator Eric Abetz said he was happy to be with Mr Hogan to announce the funds, saying it was rare in his job he could be involved with a grass roots announcement.

"What a great project this is. Having seen fist hand the great work Bunjum does, it's a real honour to be here to help this organisation develop in Ballina.

"This follows from our commitment that an elected Coalition government will create job opportunities for up to 5,000 indigenous Australians by providing up to $45 million to support the GenerationOne employment model.

"Local common sense training programs like this one are an important part of our plans to close the gap, I'm happy we are able to lend them a helping hand,"
