Hockey stick attack sparks eventful night for Lismore cops

A MAN is accused of attacking another man with a hockey stick before trying to run from Lismore police.

The incident happened in Campbell Crescent, Goonellabah, about 6.15pm yesterday.

Police called to the incident spoke to the victim of the assault who claimed to have been hit in the face with a hockey stick.

Police located the offender who jumped his back fence and ran from police.

The 45-year-old was caught a short time after.

While arresting him, two sisters, 39 and 40, have hindered police by trying to pull the man from their grip.

It is also alleged that the 43-year-old woman threw a glass bottle at one of the officer striking him to the back of the head.

She was arrested and taken to Lismore Police Station with the 45-year-old man.

The man was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, resist police and custody of an offensive weapon. He was refused bail to attend Lismore Local Court later today.

The 43-year-old woman was also refused bail and charged with two counts of resist/hinder police and assault police.

The 39-year-old was charged with hinder police in the execution of their duty.

Later in the night about 1.50am, she was pulled over driving a car on Uralba St, Lismore.

She failed a road side breath test and has been charged with driving while disqualified, fail to submit breath analysis and hinder police from the earlier incident.
