Hockey focus on cancer

JUST to prove that even big boofy sporting blokes are not immune to the effects of cancer, FNC Hockey players will don yellow armbands this weekend to raise awareness of the issue.

Hepburn Park, Goon-ellabah, will be the centre of attention tomorrow as four teams battle it out in the men’s A-grade competition.

At 1.30pm, Northern Star take on Alstonville, then at 4.20pm East Lismore play Ballina.

FNC Hockey will put on a barbecue, refreshments and raffles in the clubhouse which will cost $5. All money raised will go to charity.

Development officer Joe Morgan said the association had taken the opportunity to raise money and awareness.

“Part of the Cancer Council’s Call To Arms is to raise money to beat cancer,” he said.

“We also hope to remind men to get a check-up and try to prevent it.”
