Highway closed after crash

THE Pacific Highway is closed near the Ross Lane exit to Lennox Head after a petrol tanker and a car collided.

As a result of the collision one of the truck's tanks containing fuel rolled on its side and ruptured.

Hazmat crews are at the scene to limit the amount of fuel leaking onto the road.

The sole male occupant of the car was flown by rescue helicopter to Lismore Base Hospital with serious injuries.

The male driver of the truck has been taken to Ballina Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The highway is expected to be closed for at least the next few hours.

Diversions are in place but motorists can expect delays and are advised to postpone their trips if possible.
