High times at charity tea

DID you know that to decaffeinate tea all you need to do is rinse the leaves in hot water for 20 seconds before use, as caffeine is water soluble?

This little known fact came to light at the Ladies' High Tea held a month ago at the Evans Head Presbyterian Church Hall and organised by the local Mums and Bubs group.

"All proceeds are going to (charity) Tear Australia," organiser Naomi Arnison said.

"Our aim is to raise enough money to go towards creating a community school in an impoverished country."

About 40 ladies who attended the morning paid $10 to enjoy freshly brewed tea in china cups and gorgeous dainty delicacies served in beautifully decorated tiered plates.

By the time the tea leaves were dry, the event had raised just over $500.
