Hidden meaning in quirky jock-line's special charity drop

A BUDERIM-based underwear business is harnessing the "hidden confidence" in a good pair of dacks hoping to boost more than just comfort for those most in need.

Knobby Underwear founder Rob Rand knew how a bold pair of underwear boosted self-confidence and was thrilled to donate 800 pairs to Share the Dignity and BK 2 Basics.

The Sunshine Coast business set up a competition on its social media after brainstorming ideas on how they could give back.

"Underwear is something we take for granted but can make such a difference to a person's outlook, so it all came back to our mission for the brand," Mr Rand said.

After a viral response, double the original number of pairs that were promised to be donated to charity and are due to be handed over in coming weeks.

Mr Rand said the charities held a special place in his heart.

"They help people in crisis in rough situations who might not have access to the basics," he said.

"It made sense and we know how our product makes people feel."

Knobby Underwear was created in 2014 and has built up an international client-base selling more than one million pairs to men and women.

Modelled on a monthly underwear subscription, Mr Rand said integrated bacteria and odour-controlling technology was a cherry on top of their quirky designs.

"All the pieces of the puzzle just came together and it's been incredibly successful," he said.

"We always get messages from customers who get a chuckle or smile out of their underwear... it's almost like a Clark Kent feeling."
