Heatwave kills off large numbers of flying foxes across NSW
EXTREME heat has killed off thousands of flying foxes in NSW.
Wildlife volunteers report about 15,000 flying foxes fell from their roosts last week suffering heat exhaustion and dehydration.
More than 5000 died near Nowra and hundreds of endangered grey headed flying foxes were found at Parramatta.
The Herald reported about 90% of the dead animals were juveniles which could impact future breeding cycles.
