Man who gave $10K hearing aid is mum's lifesaver
SINGLE mum Kisha Leigh woke up suddenly four months ago unable to hear from her left ear.
Eventually she lost all her hearing, although doctors haven't yet been able to properly diagnose her.
"My biggest concern was work," Ms Leigh said.
"Also how can you support your teenage kids when you are deaf?" Ms Leigh, who works at Silver Grill on Hanson Rd, said she retreated. "It was hard because my daughter is a diabetic and I couldn't hear the doctors," she said.
"I started not serving customers as much and I didn't answer the phone."
Connect Hearing Gladstone's Alan Fort told Ms Leigh she needed hearing aids but they would come at a large price; one Ms Leigh couldn't afford.
But Mr Fort was so touched by Ms Leigh's story he approached hearing aid manufacturer Unitron to donate a $10,000 pair to her.
Two weeks ago he walked into the cafe and presented the aids to Ms Leigh. They were fitted that afternoon.
"He is my lifesaver," she said.
