Lightning storm off the coast of Ballina, Sept 25. Dee Hartin

DEE Hartin grabbed this amazing image of a lightning storm last Thursday, showing part of Ballina on a serene school holiday evening while a lightning storm raged out at sea.

This was one of three photos of this storm submitted for Photo of the Day - the other two came from Sarah Rickard and were also beautiful, although very different in style.

All up, readers had nine images to choose from when trying to decide today's Photo of the Day and it was not an easy choice.

Among the contenders we had Rebecca Ludstrom's misty spiderweb, which managed to incorporate a rainbow in its strands, and beautiful sunset shots by Shelli van Santen and Roseanne Birmingham.

However, Dee's photo was a clear winner, picking up 34% of the total vote.

Photo of the Day is intended to celebrate the beauty of the Northern Rivers and the talent of the region's photographers. As well as appearing here it is published on Page 2 of our print edition, is used as the cover image on our Facebook page and forms part of an expanding gallery of images on our website, which you can see below.

To submit an image for Photo of the Day, simply head to our Facebook page and share it.

For tomorrow's Photo of the Day we have four images to choose from, but what incredible images they are!

Have a look at them in the poll below. As usual, you can see bigger versions of them in this gallery.

Voting closes at noon.
