Heading up coast to play some country
HUMBLE country music star Morgan Evans can't wait to come and play a show in Ballina this weekend - and take the opportunity to take in our beautiful coastline.
"We always look forward to coming up that way, whether we're playing or not," he said. "We'll be bringing our boards (for a surf)."
It's been a huge rise for the Australian singer-songwriter over the last year, and he's only just getting started.
In 2013, Morgan was awarded the CMC New Oz Artist of the Year award at the CMC Music Awards.
"It was totally unexpected on the night - If I knew I was going to get an award I would have worn a better shirt," he said.
Evans followed up that feat with a record three wins at the 2014 awards - Oz Artist of the Year, Male Oz Artist of the Year and Australian Video of the Year.
Along with his rise to fame, the comparisons have come with it - some have been comparing him to Keith Urban - so what does he make of that?
"I'm a big fan. I started listening to his music about 14 years ago," he said.
"He is one of those people who I would credit to really influencing me, so it's pretty cool to be compared to him."
Evans' self-titled debut album came out in March after what felt like a "lifetime" of putting it together.
The album went to No. 1 on the iTunes Country Albums Chart and the ARIA Country Album Chart and debuted at No. 20 on the ARIA Mainstream Album Chart.
"For that to happen right off the bat it was amazing," Evans said.
He plays Ballina RSL with guest Jared Porter this Saturday, 8.30pm.
