Hayden's Run posts fastest heat
KEEN railing ability ensured promising young greyhound Hayden’s Run posted the fastest heat win of the rich Rapidvite Maiden Series at Queen Eliz-abeth Park, Casino,last Friday.
Three dogs went as one in the run to the back but, by holding the fence, Hayden’s Run went on to record 23.07s. He looked strong in scoring by 6-3/4 lengths.
Brad Northfield trains this locally bred dog (Brumby Lad - Kooringa Bella) for Mavis Wilkinson, and it started off a good day for the kennel with the promising Bralyn Shorty saluting later on.
Plastic Smile lived up to her trial the previous week when she won the second of the maiden run-offs.
She led most of the way for Angel Carter-King and hung on well to win by three-quarters of a length in 23.53s.
In the following race the Jeffrey Smith- trained Rainbar clocked 23.40s when he took over going into the back and won by half a length.
It is not often Smith’s greyhounds start at 16-1.
The final heat went to Cronkite, which was never headed in running 23.44s for Jan Finneran.
The first four placegetters will go into two semi-finals this Friday.
As usual, the distance race looked very open and it was taken out Pilfered Booze.
Originally drawn as the second reserve, she got a run from box seven and took over at the winning post with a lap to go. She won by five lengths, running a respectable 36.21s for trainer Dean Turley and owner Elizabeth Brown.
Dellemma Solved landed a few good wagers when he raced around the leader at the home bend and went on to win by two lengths in the best time over 484 metres (27.64s).
