Hawks captain plays 250th game at final

IT is not often that celebrations for a player taking part in his 250th game are overshadowed but that's what could happen to Hawthorn captain Luke Hodge in Saturday's grand final at the MCG.

Hodge's milestone game is just one of a number of sub-plots in a match set to rival the 2012 finale between the Hawks and the Swans.

There is the tale of good mates Lance Franklin and Jarryd Roughead this time playing on opposite sides, while there is set to be a couple of intriguing battles between Franklin and Josh Gibson and Kurt Tippett and Brian Lake.

Lewis Jetta, meanwhile, is hoping that Cyril Rioli overcomes his hamstring problem which has kept him out for three months and takes part in Saturday afternoon's decider.

The pair's foot race in the 2012 grand final was one of the highlights of that game, with Jetta coming out on top.

With Rioli chasing a recall after coming through Sunday's VFL grand final unscathed, Jetta is hoping the rivalry can be renewed.

"I'd love for him to play," Jetta said.

"We can do Cyril versus Jetts again - take two.

"Whether it be me chasing him, or him chasing me, or even having a goal-kicking contest.

"I think that's what footy needs.

"I think everyone wants to see it as well."

No decision has been made on Rioli yet, while the Hawks also have to decide whether Joanthon Ceglar or Ben McEvoy takes the back-up ruckman role behind David Hale.

Swans key forward Sam Reid said he would be fit to play on Saturday, despite being subbed out of last Friday's preliminary final win over North Melbourne.

Reid re-injured his right knee but told Swans TV: "I'm ready to go…I've got a pretty good idea of what needs to be done to get myself right for this weekend."
