Have a chat with Mitchell Aubusson when he comes to town

LOCAL rugby league fans can hear the story of a Seagull's transformation into a Rooster.

The Ballina Seagulls Rugby League club is holding a 'Beer, prawns and chicken with Aubo' night - that's former Ballina rugby league junior, now National Rugby League player, Mitchell Aubusson - at the club on June 21 from 6pm.

Organiser Graeme Flangan, from the club, said it was a coup to have Aubusson back in town in the middle of the NRL season.

Aubusson, a Sydney Roosters second-rower who was in the squad for the 2010 and 2013 grand finals - and scored the first try in the Roosters' 32-8 loss to St George Illawarra in the 2010 decider - had to get a special clearance from his club for the event.

He played his junior footy in Ballina and played first grade for the Seagulls as an under-18s player.

The former Trinity Catholic College student played for the Australian Schoolboys in 2005.

Aubusson made his debut in Round 1 of the 2007 season against the South Sydney Rabbitohs at five-eighth.

He is the younger brother of James, who also played for the Roosters.

"He always showed good promise," Flanagan reflected on Aubusson in his youth.

"He had a really good work ethic and he was focused."

Aubo's presentation will be an interview style.

The event is sponsored by the Ballina Fishermen's Co-op.

Tickets cost $25 and must be bought in advance.

They are available from the Ballina Seagulls club in Bentinck St or by phoning 0499 991 336.

Aubusson will also attend the Saturday afternoon game at Evans Head to watch the Ballina boys play.
