Handgun, balaclavas and drugs found in car at Nambucca

THERE'S strong evidence to suggest police may have foiled an armed robbery, after a handgun, balaclavas and drugs were found inside a car at Nambucca Heads.

A handgun, magazine, holster, balaclava and torches as well as methylamphetamine, ecstasy tablets and prescription medication were found inside a Nissan station wagon.

Police said the vehicle was stopped in Lackey St on Saturday around 12.30am.

Three men, aged 31, 33 and 34, were arrested and taken to Macksville Police Station.

After extensive questioning two of the men were charged with drug and firearm offences, while the third man was released without charge pending further investigations.

A Port Macquarie man, 31, was charged with supply a prohibited drug, possess a prohibited drug, possess a restricted substance and being an unlicensed driver.

One of his passengers, a local man, 33, was charged with possess a prohibited drug, goods in custody, possess an unregistered firearm and not keep a firearm safely.

Both men were granted conditional bail to appear in Macksville Local Court on Friday, April 5.
