Hairy group of men celebrate the end of Movember

WHILE many men in our readership area agreed to grow facial hair as a way to raise money for men's health, there was one group in particular which stood out from the rest.

The Old Dyraaba Road Group, organised by Wade Porter, celebrated the end of Movember by holding a big barbecue at which $1800 was raised for the Movember cause.

The funding, much of which came from a single donation by the Casino and District Greyhounds Association, will go towards awareness of men's health.

"There's plenty out there for women and that's all well and good," said Mr Porter. "But there's not so much for men's health."

The Old Dyrabba Road group has been holding annual fundraising barbecues for six years and Mr Porter said he was particularly proud of this year's effort.

"It's all for a good cause."

However most of the men who volunteered to grow their moustaches for the month of November were equally as keen to shave them off.

"You do get used to it, about day 25," Mr Porter said.
