Hail, thunderstorms, flash flooding and strong winds

THE region may be lashed by large hail, strong winds and flash flooding on the weekend, according to Higgins Storm Chasing.

"We are expecting thunderstorms across the weekend," storm chaser Jeff Higgins said.

"This may include damaging winds, flash flooding and large hail. There's definitely a severe chance, particularly on Sunday."

Mr Higgins said that the severe weather was a result of the large trough, which caused the Victorian tornados, moving north.

However, he said that conditions in the regionwere not conducive to tornados, but damaging wind was still quite likely.

"There could be some severe storms out there, there's a 50/50 chance for Saturday which will lessen slightly on Sunday."

A Weatherzone meteorologist agreed, but was slightly more optimistic.

"Most of the storms will be in the Border Ranges," he said.

"This is the trough that caused tornados in Victoria, but the trough is weakening slowly."

"We will probably still see some strong winds and damaging conditions."
