Gypsy music quartet in Lismore

SERBIA'S primo Roma violinist, Branko Ristic, will be performing with his partner, UK accordionist, Faith Ristic in Lismore as part of the Faith i Branko Quartet.

The quartet is also joined by Stefan Melovski on guitar and Victor Obsust on double bass, performing high-energy Roma/jazz-influenced originals.

Faith i Branko combine the accordion, violin, effects pedal and tabor pipe to take the audience on a journey from melancholy Roma violin laments to storming 'kolos' plus explorations into jazz improvisation, swing, Gypsy Rumba and Indian/Turkish-influenced violin solos.

Serbian-born Branko Ristic is a self-taught violinist.

He met his British wife, Faith, in 2009 when she was looking for a gypsy violinist to join her circus troupe.

They now perform as a duo and band all over Europe, the UK, and now down under for the summer.

At Lismore Bowling Club, Molesworth Street, Lismore, on Thursday, March 1, from 8pm, plus an instrumental workshop earlier that day at 5.30pm at the same venue.
