Gun youngsters hit the track

YOUNG drivers from as far afield as Mt Isa and Sydney will compete in the 21st Young Guns titles hosted by the Lismore Kart Club this weekend.

Club president Barry Fisher said the meeting was equivalent to a national championship for the competitors, whose ages range from 7 to 16.

"The meeting had to be postponed due to the flood and it took a huge effort from club members for the facility to be restored to the required standard,” Fisher said.

Lismore mayor Isaac Smith will open the meeting tomorrow and also the new control tower, which was built with a grant through the council.

Other guests will include former kart enthusiasts and now racing car drivers Trent Young and Jason Clements, who started their motor sport careers around the Lismore circuit.

Spectators are welcome both days, with free entry and a canteen operating.

Being a motor sport venue, covered footwear is required.

The presentation will be held at the Italo-Australian Club, North Lismore, on Sunday.
