Guilty plea in Donohoe death

THE driver behind the wheel of a car that crashed and killed a Byron Bay man is in custody after he pleaded guilty to aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death in the Lismore District Court this morning.

Shane Millwood, 27, was driving a car on July 18 last year that crashed in Byron Bay and killed Ben Donohoe.

He also pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Dylan Garft, who was also a passenger in the vehicle.

Millwood’s face appeared to falter as Judge Black refused bail for the 27-year-old.

The Crown said there was a high risk of contact between the defendant and the victims’ families and friends.

Judge Black acknowledged there was a lot of local interest in the matter.

Millwood waved to his father and supporters as he was taken into custody by the court sheriff.

Outside court, Ben Donohoe’s mother, Yvonne, said it was a relief to hear the guilty plea.
