Groth outburst in doubles semi stuns commentators

TELEVISION commentators Rennae Stubbs and John Fitzgerald were left taken aback with an outburst from big-serving Sam Groth during the mixed doubles semi-final alongside fellow Aussie Sam Stosur.

Groth was struggling with his usually dependable serve in the early stages of the first set against second seeds Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig at the Australian Open and lost his cool at one point after a double fault, shouting to his players' box: "What is going on with my second serve?”

In commentary on Channel Seven, Stubbs and Fitzgerald were left shocked by Groth's words.

"There's nothing anyone can do but you,” Stubbs laughed.

"That is quite bizarre to see Sam do that,” added Fitzgerald. "I've never seen it in his career. It looks like he's completely lost his confidence.”

The Aussie pair went on to lose to Mirza and Dodig 6-4 2-6 10-5 (super tiebreak).

Unforced errors at crucial times handed Mirza and Dodig the match and a place in tomorrow's final.

The Aussies showed spirit to claw their way back into the contest, but the No.2 seeds were too strong in the end.
