Greeter gives visitors local look at Byron

THE smiling face of Tara Jarvis will soon be one of the first sights that welcomes visitors to Byron Bay.

The Myocum resident has just been appointed as the shire's first official "greeter" to be based at the soon-to-be-renovated visitors' kiosk in the Byron Bus terminal near the Visitors Centre.

"I love the Bay and I live and breathe the tourism industry," Tara said.

A joint partnership with Destination Byron and Byron Shire Council, the Greeters Program is a free public service introduced to enable visitors to experience the Byron region through the eyes of a local.

"The program is about encouraging visitors through our Byron Don't Spoil Us, We'll Spoil You ethos," Tara said.

"We will also be looking at developing a program where visitors will be able to book a Byron greeter in advance, walk through town and be given local insights."

The greeters will initially be based in town during the busiest times, including the New Year period.
