CASINO and Lismore have fought out tough victories and Ballina remained in sharp form in an entertaining round of Far North Coast rugby at the weekend.

Barnstorming No 8 Joe Akkersdyk grabbed a brace of tries as Lismore City went 2-0 at the top of the ladder with a 19-12 victory over a much-improved Southern Cross University.

John Jenkins’ Gold Rats fixed some of the defensive leaks that saw them trampled in round 1 but the re-jigged Greens line-up was too good with Scott Lancaster starting at fly-half.

Fullback Sam Flynn scored the final try for the victors after his wingman Rory Richardson had grabbed his second in two games and Ben Felicioni had a well-earned try of his own. The Rats had tries to tight forwards in Brett Johnston and Martin Day but their backs were outclassed by a keen rival.
