Greens to have policies costed, but no promise of release

AS the Australian Greens party continues its push to appeal to a wider range of voters in rural and regional areas, it has promised to get its policies independently costed.

Deputy Leader Adam Bandt said on Thursday the party would be enlisting the newly-created Parliamentary Budget Office to get complete costings of Greens' policies.

But during a press conference during the final parliamentary sitting week, Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne would not promise voters she would release the complete independent costings to the public.

She said the party was determined to ensure all their policies were fully costed, but the Parliamentary Budget Office cannot release costing requests to the public.

The only way the public could be made aware of the true cost of the Greens policies would be if the party was to release the complete costings publicly.

Mr Bandt's announcement comes only weeks after Treasurer Wayne Swan was also caught out ordering incomplete policy costings of Coalition policy in a political move.
