Green Moon never going to be beaten in Cup: jockey

GREEN Moon has won the 2012 Melbourne Cup, paying more than $20 to win for those lucky enough to back it.

Hong Kong-based jockey Brett Prebble rode home the winner after coming out here two years ago.

"It was never going to get beaten,'' a jubilant Prebble said minutes after the race finished.

"At 250 metres out I had him back on the fence just to rest him up and let him sleep a little.

"I knew there was no horse in this race that could stay with him. He's a quality weight-for-age horse.

"The connections told me count to 10 before letting him go but I counted to five and couldn't wait any longer."

"He can win a mile he can win 2000 (metres),'' the ecstatic jockey said.

Moon Cup beat Fiorente, the European import trained by Gai Waterhouse followed by Jakkalberry, also a European horse.
