Greatest show on earth comes to town

LET the shows begin.

When I was a kid, the annual country show was the highlight of our steelworks town.

My memories of a dusty showground and the carefully selected $2 Violet Crumble showbag remain today.

And the chain swing ride.

Chairs were suspended from chains and the thrill of swinging out over the tops of the heads of my parents and everyone else was a childhood pleasure.

There's nothing quite like show memories.

Make some of your own this weekend at The Greatest Show on Earth in Kyogle.

With the Pitts Family Circus, Kangangang children's entertainment, alpacas, dog shows, horse jumping, amusement rides and woodchoppers, this year's Kyogle Show is a ripper.

A family ticket costs $40 and the full program is online.

On Friday, October 7, the campdraft, bush pony and sporting events are happening.

In the evening, there is the whip cracking contest, tug-o-war and farmers challenge.

At 7.30pm, for the first time, The rooftop Express Wild West Arena Spectacular kicks off.

This dramatic show hails from Queensland and is created by Dave Manchon who you can meet after the performance.

Saturday is the dog shows, cattle judging, woodchop, alpacas and miniature horses.

Kangagang will entertain the children at 11am and 1pm and at 3pm the popular Pitts family circus is up to its old tricks.

The Demolition Derby starts at 8pm, after the fireworks display.

Casino holds its annual show on October 14-15 and promises to be better than ever.

The annual Lismore Show is on October 20-22 and features the monster trucks.
