Grass fire near Bentley

NSW Rural Firefighters from four local brigades fought to contain a grass fire on Naughthon's Gap Rd (previously Norton's Gap Rd), near Bentley.

The fire spread across 5ha of land andwas classified today as out of control on the NSW Rural Fire Service's website.

Twelve firefighters from the Bentley, Tomkay, Casino East and Caniaba battled the blaze.

"That fire should be contained by tomorrow," Northern Rivers operations officer Daniel Ainsworth said.

Cooler conditions are expected by the NSW Rural Fire Service for today and the weekend.

"Tomorrow will still be a high fire danger day, but there is a southerly change moving up the coast early, so by lunchtime we should have much cooler conditions, giving a break for the weekend," Mr Ainsworth said.
