Socceroos threat in stunning Arnold offer

SYDNEY FC coach Graham Arnold has reportedly been offered the Socceroos coaching job.

Aussie football legend Mark Bosnich revealed the news on Fox Sports' Bill and Boz on Wednesday night, coming just days after former Brazilian manager Luiz Felipe Scolari was linked to the vacanat job.

Football Federation Australia has been looking for a new coach since Ange Postecoglou walked away at the end of Australia's World Cup qualification campaign.

Arnold has now been handed the job of leading Australia at next year's World Cup in Russia where the Socceroos will face Denmark, France and Peru in Group C.

Fox Sports reported Arnold is yet to decide if he wants the top job.

"We're hearing from a very good source, Boz, that the FFA is going to put the word on Graham Arnold, offer him the job," presenter Bill Woods said.

"The word is they're going to offer him the job but the condition is, if he says no there will be no second chance - and they'll go and hire a foreign coach."

The show also reported the FFA has made a play to strong-arm Arnold into accepting the job immediately, threatening to look elsewhere if the Sky Blues boss doesn't say yes immediately.

Bosnich slammed the FFA over the report which claims they are playing games with the most important job in Australian football.

"If I was Graham Arnold, I will tell them no," Bosnich said.

"If they want to put the pressure on me like that. No. Simple as that.

"I'm a little bit biased because I've gone on record as saying they should go for a big-hitter, a foreign big-hitter. Graham Arnold is head and shoulders above anyone locally. We know that. I don't think it's the right time for an Australian to take the job after what we've had with Ange Postecoglou.

"I don't mean that disrespectfully to Ange but right now, going into the World Cup, we need someone that is going to have the kind of stature world wide to make people jump that little bit higher, run that little bit faster."
