Grafton retiree nets $1mil on Lotto
ONE Grafton man is $1 million richer after taking out a first division prize in Monday's Lotto.
While the winner's identity will remain a secret, the owners of Grafton Mall News, who sold the lucky ticket, are elated to have played a part in the win.
Allan and Joan Worland opened up "business as usual'' on Tuesday morning, only to discover they had sold the NSW Lotteries winning first division winning ticket.
"It's terrific news," Mr Worland said.
"This is the first real big one we've sold...we've been here nearly four years, and it's great to realise this win will change someone's life.
"We're very excited - and all we did was sell a ticket."
Mr Worland said he wasn't able to deliver the good news personally as the winner is a registered player and was contacted directly by NSW Lotteries.
"All we know is he is a retired man from Grafton," he said. As for the winner, he wishes to remain anonymous.
NSW Lotteries said he had trouble believing he'd won the $1 million prize.
"I have? Oh my god!...I'm just about ready to fall off my chair! I've always said one day I might win something big," the winner is reported to have said, adding the windfall would come in handy to spoil his grandchildren.
The winning 12-game QuickPick was purchased at Grafton Mall News.
Throughout Australia, there were two entries that won a first division prize of $1 million in Monday Lotto.
Along with the winning ticket purchased in Grafton, the other winning entry was also sold in New South Wales.
There is another chance for players to win big this week with Lucky Lotteries $5 Jackpot at more than $25 million for draw number 935 on Thursday.
