IT'S a music video that's almost as instantly recognisable as the song that swept Australia and then the world, but creator Natasha Pincus can't quite believe Somebody That I Used To Know has been nominated by MTV for Video of the Year.

The Melbourne filmmaker says she was watching the Olympics really late last night and slept through AAP's call with the news Wednesday morning.

She checked her emails and spotted the confirmation from Gotye's manager, but admits she's still feeling "a little bewildered at the moment".

Pincus is also nominated in the professional category for Best Editing for the same video and says she's now hoping to get fans on her side for the major award.

"I figure Video of the Year is a voted category, so I just have to figure out how to rally the whole country to vote for it," she says.
