Got the energy? seize power

According to Country Energy's Lismore area manager Rob Orchard, the industry is going to 'get more exciting as we go'.
“The industry is very exciting, with all the technological changes we are going through, like green power,” he said.
Like many school leavers beginning in the industry, Rob started as an apprentice.
“I started an apprenticeship down in Goulburn, then when I was looking to get back into the industry I saw an ad in the paper for a labourer for Country Energy and successfully applied for the job,” he said.
That was 20 years ago and Mr Orchard hasn't looked back.
Since then, he has completed plenty of company training, overhead linesman and cable-joiner courses, as well as management and OHS courses.
This saw him progress from a labourer to working on power lines, to a senior team leader for underground works before taking on a variety of management roles, including his new position as area manager.
“It's all at your fingertips if you want it,” he said.
“Country Energy wants to achieve something, so there are plenty of further career opportunities available.”
It can be hard to break into some areas of the industry, but once you do you can 'sit back and plan your career'.
“You can do anything you want in this industry if you apply yourself,” Mr Orchard said.
