Gort breaks into tennis top 100
MULLUMBIMBY’s Stephen Gort has broken in to the top 100 tennis players in Australia.
The Mullum High ‘Old Boy’ jumped 19 spots in the Australian rankings in April after collecting 180 points in the Bundaberg Open Claycourt Championships at the end of the month and 135 in the 85th Lismore Easter Classic at the beginning.
Gort sits on 100th position, but is hopeful of going even higher when the points from more recent Futures fixtures at Bundaberg and Ipswich are tallied.
Next up for Gort is the Ipswich Open, which begins this weekend.
The 20-year-old said the clay surface suited his baseline game.
Gort said he was thrilled to break the 100 barrier.
