Fire victim's family plea for privacy

THE family of a Goonellabah man, 35, killed in a house fire last Friday night have asked for privacy as they come to terms with the loss.

His 40-year-old partner, who also lived at the Milgate Close home, remains in a serious condition at Royal Brisbane Hospital as she is treated for burns covering nearly 80 per cent of her body, police said.

Richmond Local Area Command Inspector Greg Moore said that police had contacted the Department of Community Services (DoCS) to help the woman's children living locally.

One of them, a 16-year-old, was also a resident of the home that caught fire on Friday.

“DoCS have been contacted,” Inspector Moore said.

The deceased man was originally from the state's South Coast.
