Toowoomba marketing firm wins Google tick

BETTER BUSINESS: HAVING the tick of approval from one of the world's best-known brands is more than a mark of pride for James Deck.

Mr Deck's web marketing business, 1300 Web Pro, has been named an official Google Partner, having been endorsed by the company after an extensive accreditation process.

Google endorses about 5000 online marketing firms worldwide, which must be up to date on Google's tools, have proven success in their campaigns and be on top of the latest training.

Mr Deck said getting the nod from Google would be a strong boost for Web Pro's credibility.

"People search for a firm in their geographic region that Google's vetted, and ticked off, and said 'we trust them'," he said.

"I've always felt that while the aesthetics are (important) - it needs to look nice - there's a lot more to it than that.

"We've been going head to head with Brisbane firms and coming out on top, and this is just going to give us another leg to stand on."

It's the latest milestone for 1300 Web Pro, which began 10 years ago when Mr Deck decided to branch out from his work in IT.

He said the marketing world was almost unrecognisable from when he started.

"At that time, 10 years ago, there weren't a lot of people who could market your business online, or businesses that actually had an online presence.

"Whereas now, I would argue that if you have a business, you have to have a website - it's not even an option anymore.

"So we've been through that whole journey and it's been really exciting to see things progress.

"The challenge, I suppose, is to see through the chaff, and not jump at every single opportunity.

"In our industry, in the last couple of years particularly, it's been MySpace, then Facebook, then Google Plus."

Mr Deck said he now ran a team of six, and thrived on the satisfaction he got as a small business owner.

"At the end of the day I've got ownership of it - good days and bad days, the buck stops with me.

"I like that feeling, I like that pressure.

"There's certainly days when being an employee's attractive, where you can clock in at 8.30 and clock out at five.

"It's just a special breed of person who wants a bit more."
