In Goog Company with Juzzie Smith

Nothing sits closer to home for Northern Rivers resident Juzzie Smith than mental health.

Dealing with the death of his elder brother through suicide when Juzzie was a teenager has made him aware of the importance of seeking help.

"He pushed himself by partying and taking drugs," Juzzie says.

"I can see clearly now that by abusing himself he became emptier and this emptiness was just filled with other energy that is out there."

Juzzie is now putting his knowledge and musical talents to good use, donating his time to In Good Company.

The open-air music festival is in its third year and aims to raise funds for Lismore charities the Lismore Soup Kitchen, Five Loaves and Mental Health Support Group.

"It's time to just stay with ourselves and love life," Juzzie says.

Sharing the stage with Juzzie at the festival this year are The Re-Mains, Adaja Black, Luke Vassella, Roy Wilders, Mumbo Jumbo, Jesse Balfour, John Glen, Cath Simes Band, Exit 92 and Wild Jester.

There's also entertainment from roving circus performers, fire twirlers from Inspired Youth Performing Arts, activities for kids, market food stalls, Viking troops and a gourmet buffet dinner option on offer.

Event organiser Horace Bevan says the best thing about attending, aside from the great entertainment, is knowing you're contributing to the community.

"You may not be able to save the world, but you can help your neighbour," he says.

In Good Company kicks off at noon on November 26 at the Lismore Turf Club.

Tickets $15/$12 with children under-5 years free, available at the gate.

Gourmet Buffet Dinner passes $45 per head. To book call the Lismore Turf Club on 66213176. For more info go to the website
