Good Samaritan rescues woman being attacked by man

A GOOD samaritan motorist diffused a domestic incident last night when he stopped after spotting a man and a woman, who had stopped their car in the middle of the road, fighting.

About 5.45 pm yesterday the man stopped his car on the corner of the Old Pacific Highway and Tintenbar Rd, went to the aid of the woman and called police.

When police arrived it is alleged the woman was crying and bleeding from the lip.

Officers arrested the allegedly intoxicated 36-year-old Byron Bay man who was fighting with the woman and took him to Ballina police station.

At the police station officers said the man behaved aggressively, punched the cell door and urinated all over the cell.

He was charged with malicious damage and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police applauded the courageous man's actions in assisting the woman and helping to direct traffic around the couple's car.
