Good Samaritan attacked with a chain
A GOOD Samaritan who went to the aid of a woman who claimed her car was broken down on the Bruxner Highway west of Casino on Wednesday night was bashed by a man armed with a chain.
Lismore police Inspector Doug Conners said at about 8pm a 57-year-old man was driving along the Bruxner Highway, about 40km west of Casino, when he was flagged down by a woman standing beside a car.
"The man went to look under the bonnet of the woman's car and he was struck on the back of the head by a man armed with a chain," he said.
"He fell to the ground where the man and woman continued to assault him until he managed to escape and run to his car."
The man fled the scene in his car and drove several kilometres toward Casino before stopping and calling 000.
Police and paramedics attended and the man was taken to Casino hospital and treated for lacerations to his head and body.
The man has been described as having a medium build, wearing dark jeans and lace-up boots while
the woman is described as being 30 to 40 years old with a tanned complexion, dark shoulder-length hair, a stud in her right nostril. The pair were last seen in white Hyundai Excel.
