Golfers needed for premier event

EXTRA golfers are needed to fill the Woodburn-Evans Head Golf Club men's Autobarn XXXX Gold Classic this Sunday.

It is the premier men's event at the club and is making a return after not being held last year.

At its height it featured more than 100 of the region's best golfers, but entries are well down to about 40 this year.

"We're probably way down on numbers because we didn't run it last year,” event organiser Murray Cornelius said. "It's something we really want to get going again and there will be a lot of great golfers from around the region.

"The course is fantastic to play on and is in really great condition.”

It is an 18-hole stroke event to be played in all grades, with gross and nett prizes. There is $6500 up for grabs, with major prizes for those lucky or skilful enough to hit the elusive hole-in-one.

The event also attracts golfer from south-east Queensland and other parts of New South Wales.

The registration fee is $50 and players can enter by calling the club on 66822385.

Players must have an AGU Golf Handicap or play off scratch to be eligible to play.
