Golfer enjoys British Open
LISMORE golfer Rhein Gibson finished 10-over par after completing all four rounds of the British Open.
Gibson shot 78 on Sunday, his lowest of the four rounds after making the cut on Friday.
It was the first time the 28-year-old had played in the prestigious event.
Just to make the cut is a big deal with the likes of reigning US Masters champion Bubba Watson, Ernie Els and Nick Faldo among those to miss out.
Gibson qualified after finishing fourth in the Australian Open last year.
He grew up in Lismore before moving to the United States to play golf at college on scholarship.
He had plenty of support at the event with about 20 people making the trip from Lismore.
They could be seen in the crowd wearing t-shirts labelled 'Living the reality with Rhein.'
Lismore Workers Golf Club professional Peter Jaeger also flew over to caddy for him.
Gibson was paired with one of the games greats when he played alongside Tiger Woods on Saturday.
He posted a blog of his progress during the competition on the Northern Rivers District Golf Association website over the weekend.
