Girls part of Country triumph
FOUR of our finest young cricketers have helped North Coast win the McDonald's NSW Country Under-15 girls cricket championship.
The team went through the carnival at Port Macquarie undefeated.
The four girls - Ciara Burvill, Carly Fuller, Olivia Osborne and Jakira Toniello - were the Far North Coast's only representatives.
Team captain Carly said she was delighted with the win "but we had to work for it".
"In the lead-up, we defeated Riverina, Newcoasters (combined Newcastle and Mid North Coast) and Western," Carly said.
"Then we defeated Riverina in the final, but both sides really wanted the win.
"Riverina batted first and scored 6-80 from their 20 overs. Mary Sandral scored 26 of those.
"Our best bowling was from Georgia Lynch (Kempsey), who took 3-10."
Carly scored 42 in her innings and was named player of the final.
Trinity retains shield
THE Trinity Catholic College girls Years 7-10 Twenty20 team defended the Lyn Larsen Trophy against opposition from Alstonville High, St John's College Woodlawn and Xavier Catholic College Skennars Head.
Carly again starred, taking three wickets and having to retire both times she batted, scoring 25 and 27, including five fours and a six.
She was well-supported by Ciara and named player of the carnival.
Trinity will now play the North Coast championship at Coffs Harbour in December.
