FAR North Coast girls are getting in on the action with 12 players selected in a development team after the NSW Country Under-17 Rugby Sevens at Coffs Harbour.

FNC sent two teams to play in a round-robin against five other zones.

Coached by Mick Russell and Eli Hedges, they played against Central Coast, Newcastle, Mid North Coast, Central West and Central North.

Casino and Lennox Head have been hotspots for girls' rugby players in recent years and the numbers are starting to grow around the region.

"We had girls from Tweed to Grafton and the youngest was 14, so there is a good mix there," team manager Suellen Pursche said.

"A few just missed out on making it but a lot of them are young enough to play again next year too.

"The emphasis was on game time and getting the girls into the Country development team."

Girls' games are also set to join the Summer Sevens junior rugby union competition which has started on the FNC in the off-season.

The Summer Sevens continues tonight.

Any club interested can contact local development officer Harry Witt for more information.
